Donald E. Craven, MD, is a well-versed infectious disease specialist and medical educator currently serving as Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA (2001-present). He has an impressive professional journey that spans forty-three years and has expanse knowledge and unrivaled expertise in all facets of infectious disease medicine. Prior to his current endeavors, he served as Chairman of the Center for Infectious Diseases and Prevention at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA (2001 – 2015). Also, he taught medicine, microbiology, and public health at Boston University School of Medicine (1989 – 2001) and served in numerous capacities with the Boston City Hospital (1989-2001). Roles included Director of the AIDS Program, Associate Director of Medicine, Director of AIDS Public Health, and Hospital Epidemiologist. Moreover, following the completion of his infectious disease medicine fellowship in 1976, Dr. Craven has become a Research Associate with the National institutes of Health (1976-1979). Over the years, Dr. Craven has received multiple recognitions, including the Governor Recognition Award for AIDS Research (1987) and the Kenneth Kaplan Award for Excellence in the Practice and Teaching of Infectious Diseases from the Massachusetts Infectious Diseases Society. Donald E. Craven, MD, attended Albany Medical College in Albany, NY, and received his medical degree in 1970. Then, he served his internship and internal medicine residency at McGill University/Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, QB, Canada (1971 – 1974). Furthermore, he conducted his infectious disease medicine fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, MA (1974-1976). During his fellowship, he was honored with the Alice Fruehan Award for Outpatient Medicine, the American Cancer Society Fellowship at Christie Hospital in Manchester, England, and the Lamb Foundation Award for Excellence in Medicine.  In addition, Dr. Craven received board certification in internal medicine and infectious disease medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine. To stay up to date in his field, he is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Moreover, he attained fellowship of the Society of Health Care Epidemiologists, and the Massachusetts Hospital Association. In addition to his medical degree, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology acquired at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, in 1966. Dr. Craven has held fellowships with the American College of Physicians, the Royal College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Infectious Disease Society.
